Terry Allen Mallasch and Carol Lynn Treder met in Chicago in 1989. We met at Young Single Parents where Terry, of course, was President. We were both young, single parents. Terry of Erik, age 4, Carol of Emily and Lindsey, twins, age 2. Married in 1993 with Erik, Emily and Lindsey created an instant blended family; soon Lukas was added to complete our family.
In 2001 Terry went on his first short-term mission trip to Honduras with our sending church, Bethel Community Church in Chicago. To say it rocked him would be an understatement. He returned home in body, but his mind was still in Honduras. He then announced our next family trip would be a mission trip in Honduras.
That was May 2002. We applied with World Gospel Outreach shortly thereafter. The following March we were accepted as missionaries with them and began fund-raising while finishing home-schooling a senior, praying he’d get into Moody Bible Institute, and selling our business.
We’ve now been in Honduras seven years. Erik graduated Moody, married Brittany, and is living in Alaska. Emily and Lindsey returned to Chicago where they attended and completed North Park University. Lindsey is engaged to Andrew and living in Chicago; Emily is living in Houston. Lukas is a senior at Academia Los Pinares and has joined the USAF. We’re expecting our first grand-baby in March 2011, but with kids all over the continent I’m not really expecting Sunday family dinners. But I’m grateful for God and His Son Jesus who really does make all things good.
James 1:27: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
